weary as water

every time i blink i have a tiny dream

change (or, the end of the year approaches)

All in all, this has been a pretty fantastic year. We traveled all over the country, spent lots of time with family and friends, saw some amazing shows, and basically had a ton of fun. I ran my first 5K (very hilly = not so fun). Still, I am left at the end of the year thinking about things I want to change for next year. My goals are typical.

Things to do less of:

  • spend money
  • eat
  • procrastinate

Things to do more of:

  • run
  • ride my bike
  • read
  • meditate
  • floss
  • bring healthy lunches to work
  • go to shows
  • take photos
  • get up early

But – why wait until the first of the year? I started yesterday by cleaning out the fridge and filling it with awesome healthy things. I made chickpea salad to take to work, instead of eating whatever crappy catered lunch I can scrounge up. And maybe tomorrow I’ll get up early & go for a run.

in other news…

I’ve read six books in the past week. So, if you’re counting, I’m now reading book 33 at the beginning of week 43. If this keeps up, I might actually finish 52 books this year!

I had sort of the perfect personal goal attaining day today. I:
* meditated for 20 minutes
* went for a jog AND did some strength exercises afterwards
* flossed
* didn’t get too pissed at anyone today
* cooked and did the dishes

I mean really, what else could I possibly want in a day?

September

Remember back in the day when I used to do that “try one thing a month” thing ala Morgan Spurlock? Well, it’s time to start again.

During September (my birthday month! and also we’re going on vacation!), my goals focus around spending less time with technology.

I will:

  • Not check Facebook or Twitter. Seriously. I’ve changed my passwords to something random and I’ll reset them at the end of the month.
  • Trim my RSS feeds. So far I am down to the normal tech blogs I read for work, plus 10 I read for fun. (This is down from the 150 I read for fun).
  • Check my gmail once in the morning, once at lunch, and once in the evening.
  • Only watch TV on purpose (Mad Men, True Blood, Weeds, The Big C)
  • Run at least three times a week (per my couch to 5k plan).

The moral of the story? If you need me quickly in the next month, call me!

30 days

inspiried by morgan spurlock’s 30 days show, i am going to be setting some goals for myself in 30-day increments. 30 days is long enough to get started on a habit, and so i’m setting some goals for myself.

here’s a list of habits i want to form:

here’s a list of things i want to stop:

  • eating junk food (completely)
  • drinking caffeine (this scares the beejesus out of me)
  • watching tv (oh how i love thee, e.r. and the simpsons, but you were just gateway shows)

so, for september, i’m cutting out junk food and i’m getting up when my alarm clock goes off. i’m going to try to do yoga in the mornings as well, but i might save that one for next month.
