weary as water

every time i blink i have a tiny dream

fire is pretty

1. i want want want a glow in the dark bike. what a great idea.
2. a lot of things are hard right now when they should be easy. what the hell.
3. i just took a bunch of people i’ve never really had a conversation with off myspace. they were clogging up my bulletins. also, i’m having weird issues with friending people from college on facebook. i went to a super conservative christian college, and i am none of those things. (in my defense, i wasn’t really then, either). i always feel so defensive when i talk to people from my past. i probably don’t give them enough credit.
4. the indigo girls concert last night was cancelled due to illness, so we ended up at the gay bar instead. it was cool to hang out with laura et al for a while but it was pretty terrible overall. glad i don’t depend on that scene for my social life.
5. can’t wait for the new mountain goats album to come out. seriously.
6. also, really in to LOST lately. we’re almost done with season 2.
7. best drink of the week: 1/3 simply limeade, 1/3 simply lemonade, 1/3 vodka.

atl trip

Emily and I went to Hawt-lanta for a get-out-of-dodge/birthday weekend trip. We stayed at the Hyatt downtown (god, I love priceline) in an upgraded room (no charge – god, I love nice front desk people who love lesbians) and had a blast. Emily wanted to go to Medieval Times, so we did. I had a few drinks, and it went from being … interesting … to being pretty freaking fun. We also hit up Ikea and the Flying Biscuit (best. tofu. scramble. ever.), and managed to get home before Emily had to go to work.

It was a really fun trip. We’ll have to take more day trips like that.

i like how this photo sort of looks like music notes on the left and then that gradually turns into vibrations on the right.

things are really busy right now, and only bound to get busier as we increase our supported area by 300 on feb 1. there will be someone(s) hired, but they won’t be hired by the 1st. so, busy me. i supposedly have the day off tomorrow, but i’ll be at the coffeeshop trying to get caught up on work projects.

i’m a little disappointed that kucinich has dropped out of the race, even though i knew he would not go the distance. i have to decide whether to vote against hillary in the democratic primary, or against huckabee in the republican primary. i don’t have enough faith in the american political machine to vote for someone.

i’m just a bundle of joy tonight, huh?

how lucky we are – meiko

One day
We’ll get out of this shitty apartment
One day
Is all it takes for things to turn around now
All I know
Is I got you and you got me babe
And when that morning comes I’ll make coffee and you’ll read the paper
We’ll talk about our plans and I’ll keep saying how lucky we are

One day
We’ll get in the car and drive anywhere we wanna go
And then we’ll stay in a five star mini bar luxury hotel room
Cause all I know is I got you and you got me babe
And when that morning comes I’ll make coffee and you’ll read the paper
We’ll talk about our plans and I’ll keep saying how lucky we are

How lucky we are
Oh oh ohh
How luck we are
Oh oh ohh
How lucky we are
Oh oh ohh
How lucky we are

One day
We’ll turn on the tv and won’t see nothing ’bout war
And when that morning comes I’ll make coffee and you’ll read the paper
We’ll talk about our plans and I’ll keep saying how lucky we are

How lucky, how lucky, how lucky we are
Oh How lucky, how lucky, how lucky we are
Oh How lucky, how lucky, how lucky we are
Oh How lucky, how lucky, how lucky we are.

yada yada

I was VeryProductive this weekend around the house. Go me!

Other events:
1. we went to the Pompeii exhibit at the art museum at the same time with about 600 elementary school kids. it was interesting but also depressing. nature always wins, yes indeed.
2. we went to ‘sips and strokes’ and painted pretty pictures to hang in the bedroom. it was fun and they look awesome, even though i sipped more than i stroked.
3. we also went out to eat and drink for trey’s birthday. we ended up at speakeasy on 80s punk night and drank expensive (and delicious!) drinks out of beer glasses.
4. got to food not bombs on sunday and lo and behold, the city has removed all of the benches from the 5 points area in southside. what the hell? it is time for action, i believe.

i need a haircut very very badly.
also, super mario galaxy rocks.

torn

Stories like this make me want to buy a pistol to take with me on hiking trips. i grew up shooting guns (mostly rifles) but haven’t shot one in a very very long time. i’m just not sure i want to go down that path. i like hiking solo but get freaked out sometimes about theDangerFactor in a wilderness (usually) deep in redneck country…the closest i’ve ever come to being attacked is by wild boars, however, not by humans.

of course, i’ve started being a little more … careful of my surroundings … on my walks home, since some girl was (randomly) shot&killed about a block away from where i used to live (and a block away from my path home). life is precious, yo.

p.s. “spirit if…” by the broken social scene presents kevin drew is my favorite download of this emusic cycle. so far.

p.p.s. work is absolutely batshit crazy right now. everyone needs everything done now! and by now i mean yesterday!

moment of clarity

It has been a year of disasters so far, and late Saturday night I had a moment of clarity. I’ve spent far too long in my life preparing for (and worrying about) various permutations of all sorts of situations that I may or may not get in to. It’s time to stop that. I’m wasting too much energy trying to prepare for life, and not enough energy actually living it.

resolutions

My goals for this year are similar to the ones I had last year: meditate often, read more, listen more, write more, play more. I’m going to take a photo every day this year (see project 366 stream on flickr) – and play with my big girl camera once a week.

I need to come up with some goals for work, too, which is harder than it should be. I’d like to become more specialized in the things that I do – which is something I’ve always had a mental block about. I’d like to learn in-depth two programming languages/environments this year (probably PHP and Flex). I also need to focus on keeping things updated (even the things that need to be compiled from source), and on automating the things that can be automated.

Look out world, fun times ahead!
